Field Trips and Special Events

You will pay for these trips, orders, and events in your Enrichment Fees.  The fall fee will be $48 to cover most of the items listed below.  The only additional fee next semester will cover the cost of our San Antonio trip this spring.  That cost is $33. We love volunteers for field trips, so let your homeroom teacher know if you want to join us.  You will need to let the school office copy your driver’s license and Proof of Insurance paper before driving children.  This is required every year.

The Highland Park P.T.A, has limited field trip funds for families who truly need help with Enrichment Fees - please let your child’s homeroom teacher know if you need assistance.  We can also work with you to make several partial payments instead of one lump sum.  Fall Enrichment fees also cover the cost of each student's Agenda ($6.00), and Texas Studies Weekly newspaper ($7.00).

Class Service Projects

Please check the Scottie Informer and the Parent bulletin board in our hall regularly for updated information on service opportunities.  We also encourage our fourth graders to participate in the monthly school-wide CLASS Service opportunities.

McKinney Roughs -  Friday, October 3rd - 8:30 am to 2:30 pm

Studies of nature, earth science, and Texas Geography.  We will need drivers and chaperons for the day.  ($10.00)

Highland Park Science Fair - December 3rd - 5th

Optional for 4th graders to participate.  Required for all identified GT students. We will work through the Scientific Process and check for progress in class, but individual projects will need to be completed at home. Click here to get more information about requirements.

Bullock Texas State History Museum - Changed to Friday, December 12th - 8:30-1:00

Wonderful resource to focus on specific display areas  and enjoy Texas The Big Picture in the IMAX Theatre.  We will take school buses, but need chaperones while at the museum.  Students will need to bring a snack and lunch to school. We will eat a late lunch in our classrooms upon return. ($7.00)

Mexican Fiesta - Thursday, December 18th - 9:10-10:20 pm

Fourth Grade’s version of a winter party and a service project.  Check with homeroom teachers for details.  We will need a volunteer from each homeroom to bring queso for the class.  ($2.00)

Texas Independence Day Party - Monday, March 2nd - 1:00-2:00 pm

Fourth Grade's choice over a Valentine's Day Party.  We will need a volunteer from each homeroom to make Texas shaped cookies for the class and a volunteer to make queso for the class.  ($2.00)

San Antonio - Friday, March 6th - 7:45 am - 6:30 pm ($33.00 - $28 for bus and $5 for admission to the Institute of Texan Cultures)

Bus Trip to the Institute of Texan Cultures and San Jose Mission.

Parents are invited to join us as chaperones.  Increasing travel costs will require us to ask chaperones to contribute towards the cost of buses and admission.  Each student will need to bring a sack lunch, two hearty snacks, and at least two drinks.

Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria - April 24th. ($6.00)

Pioneer Crafts -  May.  (Expenses already covered with PTA funds)

Students will complete Family Books, quilt, stitch, and dip candles to recreate old Texas crafts.  We will need parent (or grandparent!) volunteers to help prepare materials before May and assist with crafts in the classroom.

Pioneer Day - Tuesday, June 2nd - Performance at 8:15 followed by Pioneer Breakfast of biscuits and gravy ($5.00)

Singing, dancing, crafts display, special speakers and activities!  The day will be packed so we ask that ALL students stay the regular school day. Watch for more information in the spring and know that we will need lots of volunteers in May!  Buffalo Soldiers will "camp" here on campus to visit with our students. ($3.00)
