Isabella Ghori (Mrs. Lundy)
My dad came to Texas first from California in 1996 because he was traveling to Austin for his job a lot and really liked it here. He flew on an airplane to get here.
His job when he first came to Austin was to invest in high tech companies. He also really like the warm weather, the golf, the music and thought it would be a great place to call home.
My family likes to go to Houston to visit friends that are close like family, to San Antonio, to Lost Pines, and to places around Austin.
In ten years I think I'll be college at UT Austin studying premed and in twenty years I hope to help find ways to cure cancer.

Nash Tucker/Mrs. Lundy's class

1. My great, great, great grandfather and grandmother W.O. Grubbs and Hattie Grubbs moved to Texas in the 1880s.

2. They moved from Tennessee and probably traveled by either wagon or train.

3. W.O. Grubbs was a grocer. The grocery store was attached to their house. We are not sure why they moved to Texas but it may have been because of better job opportunities.

4. We like to go to Houston to visit my grandparents. Sometimes we see a baseball or football game. On the way to Houston we sometimes stop at Nancy's Steakhouse. We like living in Texas because of the great barbecue.

5. In ten years I will be in college at Oregon. In twenty years I will be a professional football player for the New England Patriots.

Jackson Cox - Ms. Perkins
I am seventh generation Texan through my fathers family. My great (X6) grandfather, Joseph Straley, came to Texas around 1850 and settled around Lampasas River. He traveled from Georgia on wagons & horses. He did work with a weigh station for cattle during the civil war & helped create church & community of Adamsville & Evant. He came to Texas for the opportunity of work.
My family likes to spend time in the summer at Port Aransas & Galveston. We enjoy visiting family & friends in San Antonio, Dallas to watch the Rangers play & Houston for their awesome zoo. The things we like most about Texas is the warm weather so we can swim a lot of the year. Most people are really friendly in Texas & it's the biggest & best state. In 10years I'll be in college at either UT, TCU or Baylor. If I can't live in Austin, I want to at least be close to it. In 20 years I hope to be playing major league baseball or an architect. I'll be married with four kids & living in either Dallas (MLB) or Florida (where I can fish).

Alec Sheer - Ms. Finkle

1. The first person that came to Texas was my grandfather, Papa Jimmy. He came to Houston in 1968 to start his business. He is my mom's father.
2. My grandpa was from Wisconsin and was living in Arizona before moving to Texas. He and my grandma drove here.
3. My grandpa had his own clothing business and came to Texas to restart it.
4. We like to go to Houston to visit friends and go to our friends' ranches. I like to go to Port Aransas. My family likes the people here and the mild winters.
5. In ten years, I want to be in college playing football for Oregon. In twenty years, I hope to be living in Austin.

Abbey Stein-Mrs. Hunter
1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my 4x's great uncle on my mom's side. His name was Charles Berwald. He came to Texas in the late 1800's.
2. Charles Berwald came to the US from Poland by boat. First he went to Chicago but did not find work there. He became friends with the porters and conductors at the train station and asked them where they thought he could go to get work. They told him to go to Texas because it was still the frontier.
3. Charles Berwald started Berwald Emporium in Houston. It was a general store. He came to Texas because there was more opportunity to start a business. Also, he was trying to escape anti-semitism in Poland.
4. My family likes to go to Port Aransas, the Houston museums and to visit my camp friends in Dallas. My family likes that there are no severe winters, every city has something different about it (weather, geography, people), the people are nice, and that this is not a boring place where you can always find something to do.
5. In ten years, I think I will be in college in Chicago. In 20 years, I hope I am married with some kids and practicing law in Colorado.

3. My dad was in Graduate school at the University of Texas and a musician. Austin seemed like a great place to live, raise a family and play music.

Allyssa Weiss - Ms. Duquette
1. Ben Frankfurt, my great-great grandfather on my mother's side was the first person in my family to come to Texas. We believe he came to Nacogdoches in 1903.
2. He was originally from Russia. He took a ship from Russia, but we do not know where or when he arrived in the United States. We assume he took a train to Nacogdoches.
3. We do not know for sure what job he had when he first came to Texas. His daughter believes that an Uncle promised him a job but when Ben got here the Uncle said he did not need him. Ben eventually became a merchant in a dry goods store.
4. We like to go to Dallas for family reunions. We like the nice weather in Texas.
5. I think in ten years I will be in Boston, MA or Austin and I will be in college. In twenty years I think I'll be in Austin as an artist.

Rachel Yeager-Ms.Perkins
1. My great-grandfather, Arthur Neuman (poppo) came to Texas from Chicago in 1933 to work for his family in the food business.
2. My great grandfather came to Texas by train.
3. Arthur came to work with his brother in law in Texas, and they started the Kraft foods company in San Antonio. Arthur met Leonore back in Chicago and brought her to Texas, where the married and settled down.
4. My family loves to visit San Antonio and Houston to see many family members and friends. We love the weather, all the outdoor activities and that you can swim most months of the year here.
5. I would like to play soccer and attend Brown University. In twenty years, I would like to be a pediatrician in Austin, Texas.

Miles Whitehill- Mrs. Hunter
1. My great-great grandmother, Sophie Larson, was our first family member to come to Texas in the early 1900's. She was on my mom's side of the family.
2. She came from Iowa by train.
3. She traded her farm house in Iowa for a farm house in Texas. She got the worse end of the deal. The farm she moved to in South Texas wasn't as nice as where she lived in Iowa. But she came to live in better weather and for farming.
4. Texas is the best state in America! We love living here and especially in Austin! We love to visit my mom's family in Houston and my dad's parents in Kerrville. We also like to go to the beach- any beach in Texas- Galveson, Port Aransas, South Padre
5. In 10 years I will most likely be living where I end up going to college. Right now I want to go to UT so I would be living in Austin. After college I want to live in Austin and be a veterinarian.

Elena Bosquez - Mrs. Leibick
1. 6 generations ago, in the mid 1800's, Jose Maria Garza my great x 4 grandfather lived in Texas, but Texas was not independent and still governed by Mexico until the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848.
2. He came from Mexico and travelled by horse.
3. He and his family farmed when they lived in South Texas.
4. My family loves to visit Utopia (south of San Antonio) and NASA in Houston and La Cantara in San Antonio, and the MacDonald Observatory in Ft. Davis. The part we like best about living in Texas is all the great things about Austin (the parks, the restaurants, the music).
5. In 10 years I think I will be living in Austin in college. In twenty years I think I'll be living in Austin and possibly working as a scientist.

Parker Mitchell - Ms. Perkins
1. The first person to come to Texas in my family was my Uncle Phil Lewis, my mom's brother, in 1992.
2. Phil, his wife, and two children came to Georgetown Texas from Vista, California in a car. My mom helped them drive across the country when she was 16.
3. Phil had a lot of jobs when he moved to Texas. Some of them were a house painter, he baled hay, and he worked at home depot. They moved here because it was more affordable to raise a family and they had friends who lived in Georgetown.
4. Our family likes to go to Kerrville, Georgetown, and Port Aransas in Texas. My family likes to live in Texas because we like the music, friends, community, school, jobs, and close family.
5. In 10 years I think I will be in California attending Pepperdine university. In 20 years I think I will be living in California, be married, have one kid, and will be a dentist.

Nia Wayman-ms. Perkins
1. Both my mom and my dad moved to Texas in 1994. My dad moved in April and my mom moved in November.
2. My dad came from New York City via Terra Haute Indiana in his car. My mom came from Ohio via West Virginia university on an airplane.
3. My dad worked at a high tech company and he moved here for the rock and roll lifestyle. My mom's first job was at a high tech company also.
4. Our family likes to go to Kerrville (folk fest), camping at parks, Port Aransas and the coast. We like the versatility in Texas. There are so many cool things to see and do, especially in Austin.
5. In 10 years I will be in Austin in college. In 20 years, I don't know where I will be or what I will be doing.

1.  The first person to come to Texas was my father, Rick. He came in 1988.
2.  He came from New York to Texas by car.
3.  He worked as a photographer in Austin doing weddings, portraits, and band shots. He came to Austin to be with a girl he met in New york.
4.  We like to go to San Antonio and we like to go to the beach and go camping. We like the mild winters and sunny weather.
5.  In 10 years I will probably be at The University of Texas. In 20 years I will be in Los Angeles and be married and I will be a DJ.

1. My great, great grandfather, Charles Seaberg came to Texas in 1898.
2. He came from Sweden by boat. He first lived in New York, then Iowa, then Texas.
3. Charles was a farmer and Iowa was too cold for him.
4. My family likes to go to Port Aransas, Dallas. and Houston. We like living in Austin, Texas because of the school, friends, and family.
5. Hopefully I will be in college at UT in ten years. In two decades I want to be an artist.

Luke Gordon - Ms. Perkins
1. The first person to come to Texas was my great grandfather, Numa J. Livaudais ("Papa Numa") in 1947.
2. He came from New Orleans by car with his wife and first born child, Yvonne (my grandmother).
3. Papa Numa was in sales. He sold a fast adding machine called a comptometer (original calculator that was not electronic).
4. My family likes to go to our ranch in Tyler, spending time on Lake Travis, and Lake Austin.
5. We like Texas because of the mild weather and the fact that we can be outside year around.
6. In 10 years, I will be in college. Hopefully, I will go to a school where it snows so I can snowboard every day.
7. In 20 years, I want to live in Utah with my family to enjoy the winter and snow.

1.The first people in my family who came to Texas was my great, great grandparents Abe and Dora Sud in 1918.
2. Abe came from Russia by boat, Dora came from Poland by boat to New york and together moved to Houston, Texas.
3.Dora and Abe both worked at a grocery store.
4.My family and I like to visit Houston. The best thing I like about Texas is that the weather is perfect for me.

1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my great, great, great, great grandfather, Isaac Riddle, in 1847.
2. Isaac came from Kentucky. He traveled by flatboat down the Ohio River to the Mississippi River. He brought wagons and horses on the boat and rode the wagon from Louisiana to Titus County, Texas.
3. Isaac was a farmer. He came to Texas to claim cheap land owned by the state.
4. We like to go to are grandpa and grandma's house in Plano and East Texas. We also like to go to Port Aransas and Big Bend. We like living in Texas because it has all our friends and most of our family.
5. In 10 years I will be going to college at UT. In 20 years, I will have a job and a house.

Layton Marek - Ms. Hunter
1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my great, great, great, great grandfather and great, great, great, great grandmother Hynek Marek and Terezie Marek in 1869.
2. Hynek and Terezie came from Horni Cerma, Czechoslovakia by boat. They settled in New Elm, near Sealy, outside of Houston.
3. Hynek was a butcher in Czechoslovakia. He worked as a butcher in Texas at first, but eventually became a farmer. They came to Texas because Czechoslovakia had a lot of political problems and land was cheap in Texas.
4. We like to go to our ranch in Cherokee, near Llano. We also like to go to the Frio River. We like to watch the animals, ride around in the golf cart and spend time outside at the ranch.
5. In 10 years, I'll be in college at UT. In 20 years, I think I'll still live in Texas, and maybe I'll move to the ranch.

1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my great, great grandfather William Franklin Taylor. He came to Texas in approximately 1870.
2. William Taylor came to Hillsboro, Texas from Covington, Tennessee in a covered wagon.
3. He was a doctor and possibly dentist in Flo, Texas area. After both of his parents had died, he was looking for a change.
4. We like to go to Houston to see my grandparents and go to the zoo and museums. We really like the dinosaur exhibit. We also like to go to the beaches - Port Aransas and Galveston. Our family likes the warm weather in Texas.
5. In 10 years, I'll be at Duke University on the basketball team. In 20 years, I'll live in Texas, probably in Austin, and be an engineer.

2. He came from Bruno, Czechoslovakia. He traveled to Texas by boat and took him a month to travel to Texas. Landed in New York, came down on a boat around the gulf coast and landed in Galveston.
3. Jon was a farmer in Granger. In Czechoslovakia he worked in a factory. He moved here to Texas for new opportunities.

1. The first person on my grand mom’s side to come to Texas is my great, great grandfather, John Joseph Burke. He traveled to Texas in 1922.
2. He came from Philadelphia.
3. John came to Texas to take a job as the first golf pro at River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
1. The first person on my grandfather’s side to come to Texas is my great, great, great grandmother Ursla Ciulla DiGiorgio and her husband Michele DiGiorgio, they met and married in Bisacquino (Palermo) Sicily.
2.They traveled by boat on the ship SS Elysia from Palermo, Sicily to the US in 1882.
They arrived in New York, then to New Orleans LA and settled in Orange, Texas.
3.Michael got a job working on a farm. He later owned a grocery store in Houston and became a developer and investor and settled in Downtown (bagby street) in Houston where a lot of the Italians lived. He helped other Italians invest their money in Houston and built the Auditorium Hotel in downtown Houston that is now called The Lancaster Hotel and is still owned by my family.
4.We like to travel to Houston and Fredericksburg to visit my mom’s side of the family. I enjoy visiting my cousin’s house on my dad’s side in the Woodlands. We go there after Houston during Christmas break every year.
My family likes the Texas climate most of all.
5. In ten years I plan to attend University of Texas in Austin, studying Architecture.
In twenty years, I plan to be married with two kids and living in Houston.

Hailey Ripp - Mrs. Hunter
1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my great, great, great, great, great grandfather, William Loyd. According to the census record, he was in Texas in 1850 in Upshur county.
2. He came from Kentucky probably in a covered wagon and most likely down the Santa Fe trail.
3. His job was a farmer, and all his stuff was worth $500 . He came to Texas because he probably wanted to take advantage of the cheap land in Texas. This means that he was an adventurous person because Texas was a wild place.
4. We like to go to Stephenville to visit my grandfather. We also like to go to to Sixflags and other adventurous places. My family likes that its such a big state and we like exploring the different regions. Another thing we like about Texas is the people because the people are all funny, upbeat, and independent.
5. In 10 years I will be living in College Station attending Texas A & M!!! In 20 years I will be taking my dad's place as an attorney in his firm, GSRP (the R stands for Ripp).

1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my great, great, great grandfather, Edward McVey. He came to Texas sometime around 1870.
2. He came from Ireland, on a Norwegian cotton ship, which landed at Galveston, Texas.
3. Edward McVey worked as a farmer.
4. We like to go to Georgetown and Houston, to visit my grandparents. We also like to go to San Antonio to visit the Alamo and Ripley's Museum. We like being close to family members.
5. In 10 years, I think I will be living in college dorm somewhere in Texas. In 20 years, I think I will be living in a secret underground house. I will be an inventor.

Chase Kershner-Mrs. Duquette
1. The first person in my mom's family to come to Texas was Martin McMahan. He came in 1839. He was my great-great-great-great-great grandfather.
2. He came from Tennessee to Alabama, and then moved to Texas. Not sure how he got here, but seeing as the ship had been invented, we surmise he came by ship to Galveston.
3. Mr. McMahan was a merchant, and we think he owned a grocery store. Texas had become an independent country in 1835, and they needed settlers.
4. We like to go to Houston to see our grandparents because they are fun to have around. We like to explore areas of Texas that have lakes and rivers we can swim in.
5. In 10 years, when I'm 20 years old, I will be living in Austin. I will probably be playing tennis in school at UT. In 20 years, I will still be playing tennis, and be a mosaic artist. I will probably be married, and mature.

1. My parents and I were the first in our family to come to Texas. We came here in August, 2007. I was two years old.
2. We came from Canton, Massachusetts on an airplane.
3. My Dad was, and still is, a Neonatologist. My Mom was an Ob/Gyn doctor, but when they moved here, she opted to stay home to care for me. We moved here because of the nice weather, and amount of year-round outdoor sports and activities.
4. We like the weather and how active and nice people are in Austin. We like to go to the COTA racetrack and to Lake Austin.
5. In ten years, I would like to be living in Austin and playing on the UT soccer team. I have no idea what I will be doing in 20 years, except for playing soccer and living in Austin.

1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was Johann Fredrieck Kiesling (John Frederick Kasling) around 1880, who was my great, great, great grandfather. He came with his wife, Elenor Quigley, and four kids, one of which was Stephen, who was my great, great grandfather.
2. He moved to Texas from Illinois but was originally from Germany and came to the United States in 1852. He came to Texas on horses and wagons.
3. He was a farmer and moved her to join other German immigrants who were settling in Central Texas, but they stopped in Cass County, in Northeast Texas. My great, great grandfather was a constable in Linden, Cass County, Texas.
4. My family likes to go camping and do outdoors things in Texas. I like living in Texas because lots of lakes and rivers and fun waterparks to go play and lots to do.
5.In ten years, I think I will be living in California going to school at Stanford. In 20 years, I think I will be playing baseball in the major leagues or soccer.

1) The first person in our family to come to Texas was John Brooker Mock. He came to Texas after a big fire in the Civil War. How is he related to me - he was my great-great grandfather. My grandmother's father's father on my mother's side.

2. He moved to Texas from Minnesota but was originally from Germany. He traveled to Turkey Texas by horse and wagon.

4. My mom and I like to visit Corpus Christi and enjoy surfing, making jewelry and eating fresh gulf seafood. We love Austin because of all the live music, outdoor activities and special friends we have who live here.

3. He came to work in the shipping industry (we think) and he had other relatives in that area.
4. We like going to the beach and many parks. We travel to Houston and Port Aransas to see our Grandparents. We love to go out to eat at all the yummy Austin restaurants and to go see live music.

1. My Dad was the first person to come to America. He came to Dallas, Texas in 1994.
2. My Dad came from England and travelled by plane. He lived in other places in America before moving to Texas.
3. He worked as a software engineer and worked for a new company.
4. We like to go to the lake to sail a lot and go to the beach to sail. We like living in Texas because it has nice weather and there is lots of outdoor space.
5. In ten years, I will be in college (UT). In twenty years, I want to go to Ireland and farm there with my cousins and I will be sailing in the Olympics and the America's Cup.

3. They moved to Beaumont because of my grandfather’s job with Mobile Pipeline. Grandpa Jack requested a transfer to one of the coasts but was not expecting the Third Coast.
4. We visit Plano to see my grandparents. We also go to San Antonio and the beach every summer for fun. We like living in Texas because of the warm weather and all the activities. Also, whenever it snows or rains in Texas, it is special.
5. I think in ten years, I will be in college somewhere and living with a friend in a dormitory. I’m not sure where I’d like to go to college yet. In twenty years, I think I might be getting a master’s degree or maybe getting married.

My Great Grandpa Karl Koch. He in 1906. He is my dad’s mom’s dad.

Wingeshausen, Germany. He came to Texas a boat called the Frankforper.

He worked on a farm because in Germany there was no land to farm. He Farmed cotton and corn.



4. Where does your family like to go in Texas? What does your family like best about living in Texas?

We like to go to my grandma’s house. She lives in Mason County. Austin is the live music capital of the world.

I think I will be in Austin Texas going to college in 10 years. In 20 years I will be in Sweden working for Mojang.

1. Who was the first person in your family to come to Texas? When did they come? How are they related to you?

DELILAH WOODY MANN, born February 17, 1808 in Roane Co., TN; died 20 October 1862 in Wise County, Texas; married John Mann September 15, 1826 in Kingston, Roane County, Tennessee. She came to Texas some time after February 1848 when her eleventh child was born in Tennessee, and before January 1851, when her youngest son Andrew Jackson Mann was born in Upshur County. She was my great great great great great aunt. I don’t know why she did such a thing.

2. Where did that first person come from? How did they travel to Texas?

She came from Kingston Tennessee in Roane County. I suppose she came in a wagon, but there could have been trains for part of the journey.

3. What job did that person have when they first came to Texas? Was there any other reason they moved here?

Most probably she was a full-time mother. She had twelve children.

4. Where does your family like to go in Texas? What does your family like best about living in Texas?

We love to go to my grandparents house in Houston and visit the beach in Port Aransas. My family loves Texas because of the warm weather and the view of the hill country.

5. Where do you think you will be living and what will you be doing in ten years? In twenty years?

I think I will be going to college at UT in Austin in 10 years. In 20 years I will be a baseball player for the Dodgers and win the World Series!

Chloe Kwan -- Mrs. Leibick

1. My great great grandfather, Dun Wong, came to Texas in the 1910's.

2. He came from China to the United States on a boat and settled in San Antonio.

3. He and my great great grandmother owned a grocery store. They moved to Texas to make a better life for their family.

4. My family likes to go to the beach in Port Aransas every summer. We also like to go to San Antonio to visit my grandparents. We like the versatility of living in Texas, We can live in a big city like Austin where there are good restaurants and schools and lots of things to do. We can also spend time in peaceful, natural places like Big Bend National Park and see the stars.

5. In ten years, I will be in college somewhere studying to be a veterinarian and spending the summers working on a husky dog ranch in Alaska. In twenty years, I'll be a veterinarian living in the United States, but I'm not sure in which state.

1. The first person to come to Texas in my family was my great, great, great grandfather, Joseph Nowak,. He came to Texas in 1882.

2. Joseph Nowak originally came from Poland on a boat and settled in Roans Prairie, TX. They travelled in horse drawn buggy.

3. Joseph Nowak's job was a caretaker of horses and the buggy for a lawyer. He moved to Texas for a better life.

1. My first relatives (on my Mom’s side) to come to Texas were James McKnight, his wife Susannah Knox McKnight, and their son, William McKnight. They arrived together in 1839. James was my great, great, great, great, great grandfather; Susannah was my great, great, great, great, great grandmother; and William was my great, great, great, great grandfather. After moving to Texas, 1. William married Susan Wynne, and their son, Frank McKnight, was my first relative to have been born in Texas. That makes me a 6th-generation Texan.
2. James, Susannah and William came from Tennessee. They traveled to Texas by horse and wagon and settled originally in Nacogdoches County.
3. They were farmers. When they moved, Texas was an independent republic, having gained its independence from Mexico in 1836 but not yet having been annexed by the United States until 1845. At that time, in order to encourage settlement, the Republic of Texas was offering land grants to settlers who would move here. James, because he had a wife and family, was given 640 acres of land (640 acres is also known as a "section" and is equal to one square mile). William, as a young man who was 18 years old at the time, but who did not yet have a family ,was given 320 acres of his own.

3. The New York Catholic Church sent orphans down to Texas to any families that would have them. Our Grandfather was dropped off in Bremond Texas at the age of 10 to work on a ranch.

4. We like to go to Lakeway and go boating and swimming in Lake Travis. We like Central Texas because of the Lakes and Parks and outdoor activities.

3. My grandfather took a sales position with The Steck Company, a printing and publishing company which he later purchased and ran as Hart Graphics.
4. We like taking family trips to interesting Texas destinations and the Hill Country. We love to go horseback riding whenever we get the chance.

3. He began farming and ranching in Burleson County, then became the county judge. He came to Texas because it was the frontier land of opportunity.

4. Since my family just moved to Texas from California in August, the only place we have visited together is Dallas because that is where my grandparents and cousins live. My favorite places there are Great Wolf Lodge and Hawaiin Falls. So far the thing we like best about living in Texas is the food.

1. My dad was the first person to come to Texas on his side of the family. On my mom's side, Johann "John" Adam Schuessler, his wife Eva, and their children came to the Republic of Texas in 1845 from Germany. He was my great, great, great, great, great grandfather.
2. The family sailed from Europe on a ship called the "Dyle."
3. The family was given a land grant of 320 acres to farm in the Republic of Texas. We believe they moved here for the opportunity to improve their lives.
4. We like to go to the gulf coast. We like the beach. We like the nice weather and the variety in the land with mountains, beaches and sometimes snow.

They are my great-, great-, great-grandparents. My grandparents never wrote down when their relatives arrived, so we don’t know for sure.

3. They were farmers. We assume they came to Texas for better fortune and better land.

3. Augustus was an officer in the army. He came to Texas because the headquarters of the 4th army was at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

My dad's first job in Texas was software engineer. He thought the job here is a better career opportunity.

I am a seventh-generation Texan. All of my grandfather's family came to Texas straight from Germany or England. The first Texas family was the Fisslers. They came from Germany in the 1830s. The Gieseckes came to Galveston in a ship they built in 1846. The Fuchs and Materns came at about the same time. All of them settled between New Braunfels and Marble Falls. The first English family was the Franklins, who came to Llano in 1875. They lived on a ranch that they bought, that is still in the family. I will someday inherit the house my great-great-grandfather was born in. My grandmother came from France. She was born in Paris. She was an actress and model there. My grandfather brought her to Texas. My mother's family came to Austin from Mississippi and Louisiana in the 1970s.

1. My grandfather, Miguel Angel Gonsalvez was the first person in my family to move to the United States and came to live in Austin back in 1977. Shortly after, he brought my grandmother Rosa, my mother, my uncle Flavio, and my aunt Claudia.

2. My grandfather was born in Lisbon, Portugal but raised in Mexico. He was the first person in my family who moved to the United States and directly came to Austin, Texas. He entered the United States without inspection because he wanted a better life for his family.

3. My grandfather worked as a cook at different restaurants in Austin, and then worked for Mrs. Baird's Bakery for 15 years. My grandfather could not find a good paying job in Mexico and decided to move to the United States to give my mother and her siblings a better education and future.

4. My family and I love to travel to Houston because of the diversity in food, music, culture. We love to go to the Houston Zoo, Children's Museum, and NASA Space Center. My family likes to live in Texas because of its rich Mexican culture and its history.

5. In ten years I think I will be living in Austin, Texas attending the University of Texas playing football for the Longhorns and learning science experiments in school. 4. We like to go to Rockport, a small town on the coast and my grandparents own a little shack right on the water. My family likes living in Texas because we like living near family.

1. Simon Peter Lewis came to Texas in the 1880s with his older brother Jake, younger brother Dave, and sister Ursa. He is my great-great grandfather.

2. Simon Lewis moved to Texas from Tennessee. When the family had to move, they used wagons and mules.

3. Simon Lewis was a cotton farmer. His son JC remembered that they used mules and horses on the farm, no tractors.

4. My sister likes to go to the Tower of the Americas restaurant in San Antonio. My family likes to go to Houston to visit relatives and friends. My sister likes the Texas pride. There is an emblem of Texas on any surface possible. Practically no other state has that. It is nice that the winters are not as cold as they could be.

5. In 10 years I think I will be in college. I do not know where. In 20 years, when I’m 30, I’ll be in an apartment. I’ll be starting my life, and I’ll probably get married. I might be inventing flying devices like flying cars and skateboards. I’ll be inventing Stuff that is powered by salt water because there is so much of it.

1. Earnest William Spiegelhauer came to Texas in 1867. He is my great-great Grandfather.
2. He came from Germany by ship.
3. He was a farmer. There was a war going on in Germany. Prussia defeated his region of Saxony.
4. We like to go to Galveston and Houston. It's never too cold there and many of our relatives live there.
5. I'll be at Duke playing for Coach K, etc. In 20 years I will be playing for the Rockets and I'll have two kids, one named Jimmy and one named Mitch the 2nd.

1. 2. My great, great grandfather Philip Samuel Spiller was born in 1849. He left the area because of the “The Great Storm of 1886”. He is on my mother’s side. He was in the war against the states, the Civil War. He came from Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana by wagon train and arrived in Texas in 1886.
He married my great, great grandmother Elena Rita de la Garza. The de la Garza Family is from Brownsville, Texas. Los porceones given by the King of Spain became the Texas Land Grants and one of these was the de la Garza Grants of South Texas and that also included the legendary King Ranch land.
3. Philip Spiller was an Accountant and Inventor. He invented a combustion engine in 1890’s. He also worked as an Accountant for the State Comptroller's Office, the Deaf School and later the City of Austin. The Spiller Family has a long history of Oil and Gas.
Philip Samuel Spiller’s son, Frank Finley Spiller was born in 1896, he was an inventor too. He manufactured petroleum gas generators, burners and radiators which he invented and had patents for. Owner and operator of Spiller Butane in Austin,Texas. He and his wife Violet lived on Spiller Lane in Westlake. He also won the contractors bid for installing the plumbing at the McDonald Observatory in the underground tunnels at Davis Mountains.
4. My family likes to go to Port Aransas, Texas. I like that my family lives mostly in Texas.
5. In ten years, I will be still in school living in Austin.

1. Parry Humprey was the first person in my family to come to Texas. He arrived June 1, 1836. Parry Humprey is my 5th great-grandfather.

2. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky. He became an officer in the U.S. Navy. While passing through New Orleans going to Pensacola, he met an old friend who convinced him to go to Texas.

3. While in New Orleans, Humphrey’s friend introduced him to the secretary of the Texas Navy, Robert Potter. Potter arranged for the Texas President, David Burnet, to commission Humphrey to be a Texas Navy lieutenant. He was assigned to the schooner Invincible. We don’t know any other reasons

4. Our family likes to visit Brenham, TX in my Dad’s plane for ice cream. We like the large amount of family we have in Austin, and the environmental conscience of the city, we even like the backyard chicken movement that we were once part of.

5. In ten years I will be in college and hopefully living in Austin. In twenty years I will hope to be living in Austin as a neurologist or a technical engineer.

1. Kate Henderson, my mom, was the first person in our family to come to Texas. She arrived in May 2007.

2. My mom flew into Austin from Madison, Wisconsin to start her new job.

3. When my mom came to Texas in May of 2007, she began to work for Seton Healthcare Family. My mom moved to Austin just six weeks ahead of my dad and I. My dad's new job at the University of Texas started on July 1st, 2007. My mom and dad moved our family to Austin for their new jobs.

4. Our family likes to go to Port Aransas to play at the beach. We also enjoy going to Burnet, Texas to visit grandparents who just moved here in June of 2014. Our family likes the weather in Texas.

5. In ten years I think I’ll be living in a dorm at the University of Texas in Austin studying engineering and architecture. In twenty years I think I’ll be living in a hillside house in Austin, Texas with my dog and will be busy building a bridge or a new building in town.

1. My mother was the first person in my family to come to Texas. She moved to Texas in 1990 to teach school in Austin Independent School district. She taught 8th and 9th grade students that were in special education.

2. My mother came from Topeka Kansas. She drove to Texas with her father and her cat, and her father helped her moves all her things.

3. My mother's first job in Austin was to teach students with behavior problems. She moved to Texas to do that because it was a good job offer with better salary than in Kansas.

4. My family likes to go to Flying L Ranch in Bandera, and camping in state parks. We like the jobs, our house, our family,pir neighborhood our school, and we all have friends here.

5. In ten years, I, Alexander, will be living somewhere near my college and working on a degree. In twenty years, I might be in Austin or maybe in California, and I may be a lawyer, and be married and living in maybe a big house.

In ten years, I, Benjaminn, will be in college and living either on campus or off campus working on a college degree, In twenty years, I might be an architect living and working in maybe Austin.

Stevie Jones Teacher: Ms.Perkins 1.My great,great,great,great grandfather died at sea coming to the U.S. One of his sons,Alexander Notzon,was born in Poland,and made his way to Yorktown,TX in 1866. 2. He came from Prussian,Poland and he traveled by boat. 3.He was a salesman for Pioneer Flour Co. of San Antonio for 33years. 4. We like to go to Galveston and go to the beach.We also like to visit my cousins in Dallas and College Station.We love living in Austin and enjoy all the fun things to do here. 5. In 10 years I think I will be living in Austin and going to UT. In 20 years I think I will be a gymnast.

Jude Brown - Ms Kinlke

1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my great grandfather. His name was Thomas Russell Putman. My dad called him Pappy. He came to the east Texas area in 1955.

2. Pappy came from Lexington, Kentucky. He drove to Texas in his blue Plymouth.

3. He first came to Texas to cover a story on a big gas explosion in east Texas. He was a writer for a newspaper. He really liked the area and decided to move his family there and start a new life.

4. My family likes to go to to Barton Springs, San Marcos river, and to the coast. We like to be in nature. The best part about living in Texas is living in Austin. We like the energy and creativity in the city.

5. In 10 years I will be an entrepreneur. In 20 years I will be a surfing instructor in Costa Rica.

1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my great great great grandfather, Joseph John Bollom, who arrived in 1897.
2. He came from Morovia which is now part of the Czech Republic. He traveled to Texas by ship and landed in Galveston.
3. He was a farmer and also came to Texas to have a better life.
4. My family likes to go to Port Aransas for summer weekends, Dallas for University of Texas football games, San Antonio to visit grandparents, and Houston and Brenham to see family. My family likes living in Texas for the warm weather and the friendliness of the people.
5. In ten years I will be studying at U.T. to become a teacher. In twenty years I will be living happily with my husband and four kids in San Antonio. I will be a teacher.

From Ron Wolleben - Ms. Hunter's Class

1. The first person in my family to come to Texas was my grandfather, James Wolleben in 1961.
2. He came from Columbia, MO by plane.
3. He came to go to UT for his PhD in Geology.
4. My family likes to go to Port Aransas in the summer. We go a couple times per year, once always as a family and then over Labor Day weekends with all of our friends. We like Austin because there is always something to do and you can be outside a lot.
5. I think I will live in Texas in 10 years, be going to college and living with roommates. In 20 years, I will still live in Texas, be married, living at my house. I might be a video game designer.
